Class Details

This class is designed for agencies that are considering transitioning to pistol‑mounted optics, as well as agencies that have already selected a make/model of optic.

Current firearms instructors will learn how to transition their agency to this accessory, including the benefits of its use and important policy considerations. Non‑instructors will benefit from training methodologies that shorten the learning curve and support an efficient transition to RDS.

The class will cover current technology, industry trends, and key RDS features. (We do not endorse any specific make or model, but we can help you understand the pros, cons, and configuration options of various systems.)

Instruction is organized to help officers learn efficient and effective use of this tool and avoid the common problems that occur when agencies adopt RDS without proper transition training.

Students will zero their RDS and learn the real‑world benefits of zeroing at various distances. Dot size (MOA) will be thoroughly explained. The relationship between RDS and iron sights will be discussed, and common myths regarding iron‑sight versus RDS qualifications will be addressed.

The class also covers alternate aiming techniques, weapon manipulations (loading, unloading, malfunction clearing), intuitive target/threat‑focused benefits of RDS, and a structured series of drills designed to build rapid skill acquisition, confidence, and improved proficiency with duty pistols. Before‑and‑after skill tests will be conducted.

Additional topics include RDS benefits for veteran officers and advantages of RDS at distance, which will be discussed, demonstrated, and practiced.
